Subpoena

A subpoena is an official request to appear before the juvenile court. The subpoena states where and when your minor and you as parent(s) or guardian(s) must appear before the juvenile court.

A minor, unlike an adult, is obliged to be present during the court hearing. The parent(s) or guardian(s) of the minor also receive(s) a subpoena and is/are also obliged to be present. If the parent(s) or guardian(s) do(es) not show up, it is possible that the judge will stay proceedings and will issue an order stating that the parents have to be present next time.

The indictment is attached to the subpoena. The indictment states the criminal offence of which your minor is suspected.

The hearing at the juvenile court differs from the hearing at the district court. To find out more about the procedure during a hearing at the juvenile court, read the topic hearing at the juvenile court.
