Halt
Halt stands for "the alternative". A Halt settlement is offered to a minor by the police if it concerns a minor offence. The Halt settlement can relate to:
- Damage compensation;
- Performing activities of an educational nature, such as writing an essay or a letter of apology;
- Carrying out tasks that are related to the committed offences, such as community service;
- Carrying out tasks that are related to the damage caused, such as removing graffiti.
A Halt settlement is only possible if the minor confesses and if the minor agrees to following the Halt-procedure. The Halt sentence will not be part of the judicial documentation, also known as the criminal record.
A criminal case can only be settled twice via Halt. Moreover there has to be at least one year between the two Halt settlements.
